There’s nothing quite like pressure to move writing along. After all, isn’t that why journalists are able to produce copy as quickly as they do? I mean, deadlines simply can’t be broken or the presses will be held up and that cost big time.
I received an email from the Queensland Writers’ Centre the other day pointing out that Queensland Writers’ Week is fast approaching. In fact, it commences on Monday the 8th, and what better way to start work on a new book?
I will be making a start on a new fiction book, I have decided. And I will make sure to write one page each day that week.
What about you? Are you planning to do anything special for the week? Perhaps start a new blog? Or write a freelance article?
It’s a fact, isn’t it, professional, self-employed writers have to be so bloody motivated or the boats will just sail out without us.
The timing of your post was perfect, Grant. I was contemplating a very tricky and somewhat onerous piece of work and, at the same time, working out how I could entice my wife out for a coffee, thus side-stepping my task for a while. Now I’ll just do it. And, yes, I’ll probably have it done in time for a coffee.
And then I’ll come home and write a very overdue post for my blog.

Just in the planning stages at present, Michael. Using Scriviner’s corkboard to put down concepts and it’s going well. I find this a creative, stimulating way. I will be aiming at a very different form of writing; something more contemplative than usual.
